J. Kerr Marrakech (Pink Lady)

This painting was one of those break-through pieces, like an awakening. We do not always have to follow the rules of art school. So, in came the neon pink and pearlescent paints. Honestly, go do it. Get those colors professors told you never to use. One college professor always told us, “Never get a tube of paint that has more than two pigments in it.” Screw that. It makes no difference in the end, saves mixing time, and have you seen some of the colors out there?!

Stepping out of this kind of thinking turned the lightbulb on full blast. We are allowed to do what feels right. It is part of art and our visions. Using saturated, unusual colors brought me out of a comfort zone into a whole new world and turned out to be successful. These days I am getting more in tuned with playing around instead of being so serious in making art. It is all about what you want to make. So simple but so true.
